How to pick up free wi-fi in Tokyo,

(1) Go to one of these stations,

○ 「JR EAST Travel Service Center」

Then find SSID: JR-EAST_FREE_Wi-Fi

Find the e-mail address of that site, then send a blank message. Wait for the reply.

In the reply there is a log-in code. Enter it in the welcome page, then you
should use the internet for free.

(2) You could also use FON free internet, but if you aren't a Fonero, you can only view Google contents (like G-mail, Google Map, Blogger and YouTube).

That helps, even if you can't view other contents (such as Tumblr).

(3) Find Family Mart (convenience store). You can use free wi-fi.

Only 20 minutes, 3times a day. So, you could use it up to an hour.

To use it, you need to register with your e-mail account.

Make sure to sign up before coming to Japan, or you could sign up using FON or JR wifi or friend's internet.

(4) Find Starbucks. You need to register with your e-mail account.
It's effective 24 hours. After that you need to re-register again.

(5) If you have a Japanese friend who has a mobile phone, ask him/her to register for Freespot.

Freespot could be found in a lot of places in urban areas. Toyoko Inn for example.

You can't register with internet e-mail account for freespot.
